Understanding Dementia

Session Overview

This session will help you gain an understanding of what to expect as dementia advances.  Learning includes:

  • What is dementia – find out about the different types
  • What range of symptoms can it cause
  • Changes in perception – how we see the world
  • Improving communication
  • Tips on how to help with eating and drinking and distress
  • Understanding Sundowning and Delirium
  • Supporting through signposting (list of support organisations)

Details

  • Length: 2hrs
  • Suitable for: Unpaid carers (family/friend). This session is mainly geared towards family carers to help them in their caring role. If you are a professional who wishes to attend in a personal capacity or are attending so that you can better support family carers, then this session will also be suitable for you.
  • Delivered: online via Microsoft Teams and in person
  • Funding: Only people who live in Cheshire East can attend these sessions for free.

  • Funded: No cost to people who live in Cheshire East.
  • Cost: For those living outside of Cheshire East, please email info@eolp.org.uk for further infromation

  • Wednesday, 25 February:  10:00 am to 12:00 pm, face to face, Wesley Centre, Sandbach, CW11 1DG in partnership with Cheshire East Carers Hub.
  • Wednesday. 22 April: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Online via Teams.
