This one-day study event is designed to build skills, share evidence and improve outcomes of palliative hepatology. You will explore the local picture of Palliative Care & Liver Disease, Decompensated Liver Disease definitions, Management of complications, Substance Misuse and the effects on palliative care and undertake a practical session discussing Parallel Planning Case Studies.

Who should attend:

This study day is designed for healthcare professionals, including clinicians, nurses, GPs and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), working across acute hospitals, community services, alcohol services and liver units.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the study day, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise patients with advanced liver disease who may benefit from a palliative hepatology approach and earlier supportive care integration.
  • Understand the clinical need for palliative hepatology services, including current gaps in care and common barriers to service development.
  • Apply evidence-based management strategies for patients with advanced chronic liver disease, focusing on symptom control, prognosis, and multidisciplinary care.
  • Use case-based learning to explore parallel planning, supporting decision-making and communication when managing uncertainty in advanced liver disease.
