Session Overview

Designed for all health and social care staff, this one-day course provides an introduction to palliative and end of life care, allowing you to develop your knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver compassionate, person-centred care.

This course explores key areas such as recognising when someone may be approaching the end of life, the importance of advance care planning, effective communication with individuals and their families, and taking a holistic approach to care, including symptom management and emotional support. 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to

  • Understand the 5 Priorities for Care and apply the principles in practice to support high-quality, person-centred end of life care.

  • Recognise the uncertainty associated with dying and the challenges of prognostication.

  • Develop facilitative communication skills to support sensitive conversations with patients, families and those important to them.

  • Understand the benefits of effective Advance Care Planning and the importance of a holistic approach to symptom management.
