We do not currently have any specific recommendations for facilitators of Six Steps programmes other than we advise the following which would  include knowledge and experience of palliative/end of life care, previous teaching/facilitation experience and ideally insight into care home work.

In June 2016, the  standards attached below were been agreed by Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Cumbria Strategic Clinical Network as recommended competencies for people delivering training and education in palliative and end of life care. These are considered to be core standards, and can be added to for staff with extended roles.

Work is currently ongoing to develop a set of evidence based Standards and Guidelines for end of life care facilitators/educators across the Cheshire and Merseyside Strategic Clinical Network and is due to be published in 2020.
