Promoting End of Life Care in Advancing Dementia

 This is a short course to develop and increase the confidence, knowledge and skills of practitioners to enable them to effectively support people with dementia approaching the end of life

Learn about dementia as a terminal illness and its disease progression. Recognising the dying phase and the importance of Advance Care Planning

- develop knowledge and skills and apply them to your practice.

Symptom Control in the Last Few Days of Life

A one day study day using a mix of discussion, lectures and workshops facilitated by specialist palliative care staff helping practitioners to recognise, reduce and alleviate symptoms.

Content: 

  • Care Plan for End of Life Update
  • Frequency and occurrence of symptoms in the last few days of life
  • Allowing a natural death - the process of dying
  • The consequences of uncontrolled symptoms for the patient and their family
  • Understanding and supporting relatives in last few days of a patient's life

A 2 day evidence based course (attracting 12 CPD points for medical staff) with expert trainers approved by the National Cancer Action Team focusing on:

Identifying complex and challenging communication issues & developing skills and strategies to manage these issues e.g. breaking bad news, handling anger and distress.
