Promoting End of Life Care in Advancing Dementia - 2.5 day course

This is a short course to develop and increase the confidence, knowledge and skills of practitioners to enable them to effectively support people with dementia approaching the end of life

Learn about dementia as a terminal illness and its disease progression. Recognising the dying phase and the importance of Advance Care Planning - develop knowledge and skills and apply them to your practice.

Course Format:2½ days - spaced out over 3 months

Cohort 5 ~15th September 2016 (full day) & 29th September 2016 (full day) & 12th January 2017 (half day am) East Cheshire Hospice, Macclesfield, SK10 3DR

Courses Dates for 2017:

Cohort 6~ 11th January 2017 (full day) & 25th January 2017 (full day) & 19th April 2017 (half day am) St Luke's Hospice, Winsford, CW7 1BH

Cohort 7~ 26th April 2017 (full day) & 10th May 2017 (full day) & 26th July 2017 (half day am) East Cheshire Hospice, Macclesfield, SK10 3DR

Cohort 8 ~ 27th September 2017 (full day) &11th October 2017 (full day) & 13th December 2017 (half day am) St Luke's Hospice, Winsford, CW7 1BH

       

Who is it for? Health and Social Care staff who care for people with dementia in any care setting. 

Course content includes:

  • What is Dementia?
  • Diagnosing dying
  • Mental Capacity
  • Advance Care Planning
  • Communication Skills
  • Understanding behaviours that challenge
  • Nutrition, hydrating and swallowing
  • End of Life Care
  • Grief, Loss & Bereavement
  • Support to try out and use new knowledge, skills and strategies

Course facilitators: General Practitioner, Allied Health Therapist, Social Worker, Educator/Facilitator, Carer, Family Support Unit, Admiral Nurse 

Cost: This course is fully subsidised therefore free of charge to staff working within East, Vale Royal and South Cheshire. £195 to all other applicants. (Cancellation charges apply)

An Introduction to Dementia

Course Dates:

Tuesday 27th September 2016- 9.30am-4pm at St Luke's (Cheshire) Hospice, Queensway, Winsford, CW7 1BH

Or

Thursday 17th November 2016 - 9.30am-4pm at East Cheshire Hospice, Macclesfield, SK10 3DR

 

     Course content includes:

  • Overview of Dementia and Mental Capacity
  • Types of Dementia, Assessments & Medication
  • Advanced Dementia and End of Life Care
  • Memory Activities
  • Dementia scenarios

         Who should attend:
      For all staff who support individuals with Dementia

 

     Course facilitators:

Dementia End of Life Practice Development Team - Educator/Facilitator, Social Worker, Allied Health Therapist, Admiral Nurse (A Specialist in Mental Health and Dementia Care)

 

 

This course is fully subsidised therefore FREE to staff in Eastern Cheshire, Vale Royal and South Cheshire. £60 to delegates outside these areas (Cancellation charges apply)
